Listener Reviews
Guest: Hannah Nitz
All serious topics aside… can we discuss how contagious Hannah Nitz’s laugh is?? I love all she brings to this podcast when she’s been a guest. But the laugh makes me smile and laugh with her. I’ll need to listen again to get the deeper takeaways now😂 In all seriousness, thanks Juli for your ministry and the hard things you discuss with such gentleness and grace, giving us all a “safe space” to process the things we might’ve been too afraid to confront in our own lives.❤️
4/5
Appreciate that this material is out there from a Christian perspective. The two main hosts are women, which sometimes lead to what feels like unbalanced expectations toward men (not mirrored for women) in the conversations. That’s why I didn’t give it 5 stars, but again the fact that anyone is talking about this as much as they are—really glad for that.
Great content
Grateful for Juli - a humble teacher, rooted in the word, and committed to God’s call on her life.
My Favorite Thing
My favorite thing about Juli in all of her interviews is that she turns everything back to our relationship with God and His Word. Nothing speaks louder or truer. The content is so practical and honest! Thanks Juli and team!
Juli is a phenomenal interviewer
I’m a relatively new subscriber who came from hearing Juli on another podcast but I have SOO enjoyed listening to her own podcast. She brings on wonderful guests and together they share amazing insight, but what really blows me away is her interviewing skills. She is always asking amazing questions, which is a skill I am wanting to grow in. You can tell she’s always listening deeply and thoughtfully to her guests and they pick up on it!! I just wanted to honor her for that. Keep up the great work Juli! I’m grateful for you and this podcast!
Birth control episode
do yourself a favor and skip this episode. Otherwise, This show is great and Juli and most of her guests are wonderful!! The guest on this particular one is rude and bigoted and unbiblical. He has clearly taken the Bible out of context and conveniently ignored God’s character to pleasure his own desire to demean and control women. That might be a bit unfair, but wow, his views are the reason why so many of my friends have deconstructed their faith and left the church. Jesus wants and intimate relationship with you and walks compassionately beside you. He made you how you are with the desires you have. Not to be a baby vending machine, but to be in relationship with him and with other people. Keep walking with him with your brain and your Bible!!!
Relieved
I couldn’t be any more enthusiastic about finding and hearing solid, and biblical, relationship teachings concerning such a historically “taboo” topic…..I myself believe that God created sexual intimacy, and even designed it, to glorify Him in and through a loving marriage. Thank you for being so brave and bold to shine THE LIGHT.
Birth control?
Yes he’s passionate and there is a lot of truth, but I think he was also rude. He mentioned several times the word of God in its fullness and its mystery. Col 1:27 says this mystery is “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” not procreation.
Birth Control Episode
Screaming! Haha I’ve never screamed at the radio during your podcast before. Is Juli allowed to speak on her own podcast?? Talking about self control, yet he has zero in the conversation! Juli, he didn’t let you push back. Not a single time. This left me very frustrated. Gahhhh! lol. Love Juli with Java so much! She’s a Saint! My favorite podcast ever. Just a very frustrating episode I guess, but she handled with grace.
Great info here🎯
The modesty episode and the birth control episode were both so filled w information! Definitely worth the listen. Refreshing to hear the expanded continuum on modesty! It’s not only for females, and it’s not only regarding clothing. Yes! Finally! 👏👏👏
10-27-25 episode
I’m so relieved I’m not alone in frustrations on this episode’s guest, as another review pointed out. He kept arguing about the historical precedent for what Christians believed prior to 1930, and Julie kept steering us back to applying scripture to the matter. I’m biased as an engineer, but I want clear, specific arguments, not grandiose poetic rants that substitute passion and verbosity for good biblical arguments. Nevertheless, Dr. Juli and Dr. West both treated each other with grace and this was a conversation that stretched me to grapple with the issue in new ways!
Loved the conversation with Dr. West
It is so refreshing to see how two believers can disagree. Julie, thank you for demonstrating respectful, disagreement and engaging in a conversation that is not easy. So thankful for the way that it made me go back to the root of my belief of sex in marriage and ask the questions of scripture.
10-27-25 episode
God Bless you Juli your patience with your guest in the episode was saint like. I lost track of how many times he cut you off. Almost ironic how he came close to proving his point of how men have exploited women. He might have a good argument but he could work on his delivery. His passion is great his grace not so much.
Biblical, important!
Julie doesn’t tell you what to think, she tells you how to think like Christ and lets you do the wrestling! Such important topics, she never shies away from the super hard stuff.
Wisdom, Warmth, and So Much Truth
Java with Juli is like sitting down with a wise mentor and a hot cup of coffee—comfortable, honest, and full of rich truth. Juli tackles the real stuff—sex, marriage, identity, healing—with such grace and biblical depth. She’s not afraid to ask the hard questions or hold space for hard stories, and somehow always brings the conversation back to God’s heart. This podcast has helped me grow in both faith and freedom, and I’m so grateful for the safe, truth-filled space Juli has created.
A good place to start
Juli and the guests she brings on are amazing. This was a good place to start just trying to learn and understand what God wants for my sexuality. It helps make sense of what’s in the Bible. But it also helps break down the present day struggles. I don’t feel alone when I’m listening. Very thankful to Juli for her obedience in the task the Lord has set before her. If it wasn’t for that, millions of people would not have the language, safe space, and resources to understanding Christian sexuality. I am forever grateful.
Wise, Honest & Compassionate
Java with Juli is my go-to podcast for real talk about Biblical sexuality! Juli and her guests speak with honesty and wisdom, and their approach to this tender topic is both authentic and compassionate. I cant recommend this podcast enough!! 🌟
A fresh voice, compassionate and wise
Cannot say enough good things about Java with Juli. I’ve learned so much from Dr. Juli Slattery over the past 10 years and consider her a highly influential voice in a world filled with confusion and despair related to sexuality. She’s tender, kind, tenacious, insightful, and grounded in God’s love and biblical truth. Don’t miss this gift. Listen and keep coming back because she’s not afraid to discuss the issues of the day and point us to Christ. Great lineup of guests and relevant topics.
Balanced and Nuanced
Juli has balanced and nuanced conversations with well-selected guests about hard topics. One of my favorite podcasts!
Grace and truth on complicated topics
Juli’s ministry is one of the best podcasts i’ve found to date. She is honest, grace filled, humble, and biblically faithful. She address hard topics sex, culture and church in a helpful and thoughtful way.
Truth for marriage
When we need (sometimes hard) honest truth, we know we can find it here. Thank you for being willing to address all the topics!
Life giving & refreshing
I absolutely love this podcast, and I look forward to new episodes every Monday. Juli does a FANTASTIC job of teaching on difficult conversations the church usually ignores like LGBTQ, the realities of sex, and all stages of marriage/relationships. She has such a way of recognizing God’s mercy, grace, and His unconditional love for people in tough situations outside of some of the legalistic answers or approaches we have grown up learning in church. She has a “this is the way we have been taught and maybe it was with good intentions, but we can do better,” kind of approach. Juli’s voice is so calming. This has been an answer to my prayers. So often her podcasts answer questions I’ve had on “taboo church subjects” for YEARS, but I’d never been brave enough to ask, nor have I ever heard preached about in my 26 years of life. I love that she never forces her viewpoints on her guests who may have a different understanding of the Bible. She is always respectful and constantly looking on ways to grow herself. I’ve learned so much from her podcasts, and I definitely encourage others to take a listen.
Grace & Truth
Great insights with the foundation always being rooted in the Word of God, and topics that are important but not always talked about in the church. Loved the Jackie Hill Perry podcast!!
My favorite podcast
I love this podcast so much. I’m 19 and a freshman in college and in a world of confusion, uncertainty, and chaos this helps me remember to run to the Lord and gives me guidance on how to stay disciplined. This podcast reminds me I’m not alone in my sins. It helps me with wisdom and understanding when having conversations with friends. It helps me to discern how to overcome things. I love talking about these episodes with my family and it helps my family to go deeper in our conversations. I’m so grateful that God is using Juli! Thank you for a wonderful podcast!
